Rehoboamu akaenda Shekemu; maana Israeli wote walikuwa wamekuja Shekemu, ili wamfanye mfalme. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:1	Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
Ikawa Yeroboamu mwana wa Nebati aliposikia, (maana alikuwako Misri, ambako amekimbilia mbele ya mfalme Sulemani), Yeroboamu akarudi kutoka Misri. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:2	It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon), that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
Wakapeleka ujumbe, wakamwita, Yeroboamu akaja na Israeli wote, wakamwambia Rehoboamu, wakasema, 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:3	They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
Baba yako alilifanya zito kongwa letu; basi sasa upunguze utumwa mgumu wa baba yako, na kongwa lake zito alilotutwika, nasi tutakutumikia. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:4	Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.
Akawaambia, Mnirudie baada ya siku tatu. Watu wakaenda zao. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:5	He said to them, Come again to me after three days. The people departed.
Mfalme Rehoboamu akataka shauri kwa wazee, waliosimama mbele ya Sulemani baba yake, alipokuwa hai bado, akasema, Mwanipa shauri gani la kuwajibu watu hawa? 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:6	King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give you me to return answer to this people?
Wakamwambia, wakasema, Ukiwa mwema kwao watu hawa, na kuwapendeza, na kuwaambia maneno mazuri, ndipo watakapokuwa watumishi wako siku zote. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:7	They spoke to him, saying, If you are kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.
Lakini akaliacha shauri lile la wazee walilompa, akataka shauri kwa wale vijana waliokua pamoja naye, waliosimama mbele yake. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:8	But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
Akawaambia, Je! Mwanipa shauri gani la kuwajibu watu hawa, waliosema nami, wakisema, Utufanyie jepesi kongwa alilotutwika baba yako. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:9	He said to them, What counsel give you, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that your father did put on us lighter?
Na wale vijana waliokua pamoja naye wakamwambia, wakasema, Uwaambie hivi watu wale waliosema nawe, wakinena, Baba yako alilifanya zito kongwa letu, lakini wewe tufanyie jepesi; uwaambie hivi, Kidole changu cha mwisho ni kinene kuliko kiuno cha baba yangu. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:10	The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you tell the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
Basi kama baba yangu aliwatwika kongwa zito, mimi nitaongeza kongwa lenu; baba yangu akiwapiga kwa mijeledi, lakini mimi nitawapiga kwa nge. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:11	Now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.
Basi Yeroboamu na watu wote wakamjia Rehoboamu siku ya tatu, kama mfalme alivyoamuru, akisema, Mnirudie siku ya tatu. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:12	So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.
Mfalme akawajibu kwa ukali; mfalme Rehoboamu akaliacha shauri la wazee, akasema nao kwa shauri la vijana, 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:13	The king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
akinena, Baba yangu aliwafanyia kongwa zito, nami nitawaongezea; baba yangu aliwapiga kwa mijeledi, lakini mimi nitawapiga kwa nge. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:14	and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.
Basi mfalme hakuwasikia wale watu; maana jambo hili lilitoka kwa Mungu, ili alithibitishe neno lake alilomwambia Yeroboamu mwana wa Nebati kwa mkono wa Ahiya Mshiloni. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:15	So the king didn't listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
Basi Israeli wote walipoona ya kuwa mfalme hawasikilizi, watu wakamjibu mfalme, wakasema, Tuna sehemu gani katika Daudi? Basi wakaenda zao Israeli wote hemani kwao. 2 Mambo ya Nyakati 10:16	When all Israel saw that the king didn't listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, Israel: now see to your own house, David. So all Israel departed to their tents.

King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
